Thank you again for your willingness to help and for making this such a great baseball program!
Thank You from Shirley Youth Baseball
On display Sunday morning at the Lura A. White School was
a wonderful show of community spirit, civic pride and support for our town's
youth baseball program. It's not the first we have seen in this fine, little town
we all call home, and it certainly will not be the last. Many folks took time off
from their own spring chores, precious family time or otherwise overly busy
schedules to come down to the baseball fields and assist with the spring cleanup
and preparations for the upcoming season. This tremendous effort has put the
fields and their immediate vicinity in the best shape they have been in this
early in the season.
A great youth sports program is one comprised of passionate
volunteers and supportive parents and coaches all working together to create an
environment where enthusiastic participants continue to learn, grow, develop
skills and have fun. Over the past several years the enrollment in the baseball
program has grown substantially as has the quality of it. This is due in large
measure to the ever growing list of passionate volunteers who help to make it
so.
We, the board members of Shirley Youth Baseball, would like
to extend our gratitude to all the folks who volunteered their time, tools and
energy to help make this happen on Sunday.
Thank you!

2008 Shirley Youth Baseball Registration and Evaluations
Shirley Youth Baseball is currently conducting registrations
for the 2008 Spring Season.
On Saturday, February 23rd from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Shirley Middle School Gym, Shirley
Youth Baseball will hold a registration day and conduct player evaluations.
Evaluations will be for those playing at the Cal Ripken Minor D1, Minor and
Major levels (Ages 9-12). It is mandatory that players attend to ensure they
are placed on the skill-appropriate team.
Player Evaluation Sessions are as follows:
9 year
olds 9:00am - 10:00am 10 year
olds 10:30am - 11:30am 11 year
olds 12:00pm - 1:00pm 12 year
olds 1:30pm - 2:30pm
Registration Details:
Any boy/girl between the ages of 5-12 as of April 30, 2008
is eligible to play. Registration deadline is March 3rd, 2008, after which
registrants will be placed on teams as space is allowed or they will be put on
a waiting list. This is especially important for players age 9-12 who will
participate on travel teams.
We need to identify the number of teams SYB will be fielding
as part of a 5 town league called the MacIntosh League. The scheduling process
for this is fairly complex and as such needs to be completed in March. It is
our wish to accommodate every child that wants to play so we encourage
registering as early as possible.
Shirley Youth Baseball and the Macintosh League are
affiliated with Cal Ripken / Babe Ruth. With some exceptions, the age brackets for each division is broken down like so:
TBALL (5-6) Rookie (7-8) Minor D1 (9) Minor
Travel (10) Major
Travel (11-12)
Players between the ages of 13 and 19 are being placed
under the 'ASH (Ayer, Shirley, Harvard ) Babe Ruth' organization.
Any questions or comments please call or email Bob Eramo,
President of Shirley Youth Baseball, at 978-425-0252 or email at boberamo@shirleybaseball.com.

Field Maintenance Check List
Check List Document
To all our volunteers and others who use the Burt Coffman and Dale Prentiss Fields
Over the last few years a tremendous effort has been made to improve the playing conditions of our fields and beautify the area. This has been done for the safety of our players and the pride that all those involved have for their town and it's baseball program. For that I thank you.
In an effort to ensure that the fields are ready for those that play, we ask that all those that use the field leave the field in the condition that they received it or better. That means grooming and raking. All coaches head coaches for the following teams have been given access to the equipment building for this purpose: Shirley Youth Baseball, Ash Babe Ruth, American Legion, Shirley Middle School Softball and Baseball, and Parker Varsity Baseball. I have attached a maintenance check list that is being presented to the Shirley Recreational Field Committee for adoption. It is comprehensive and provides instructions on when to play and when not to play. Common Sense should prevail.
Please feel free to provide comments if you like. I encourage it.
Bob Eramo
President
Dale Prentiss Field/Burt Coffman Field
The Town of Shirley and Shirley Youth Baseball have begun a cooperative effort to continue the improvement of the Fields at Lura A White. The Dale Prentiss Field is having the entire infield replaced with new sod. This was done about 5 years ago, however, lack of irrigation and a fertilization program caused irreparable damage. SYB and it's volunteers have provided the labor and sod for this project. The town has agreed to irrigate the field. This was accomplished by the policy put in place by the Shirley Recreation Field Committee that "no new fields would be built without irrigation". Irrigation is the life blood of any new field project that will ensure that along with proper rest and nourishment, will thrive for years to come. SYB wants to extend a sincere Thank You to the Town.
